I have not posted in FOREVER. I'm sorry for neglecting you, el-jay. It was a period of darkness and exams and deep, deep soul agonies.
Which is to say, the semester is almost ending, and my teachers have abandoned their guises of sweet, kind, humane creatures, and revealed themselves to be joy-sucking sadists. LIFE IS GOOD, clearly. But enough about that. Let me tell you about how my fic-writing is coming along!
I've broken 10,000 for the robot AU, the one which no one felt philanthropic enough to talk me out of. It is...steadily declining in terms of literary merit, I feel, (and when it's a robot AU, you're already starting in negative numbers), but YOU KNOW WHAT, Pete and Patrick have finally gotten past third base, and that is going to have to be good enough. I just need them to fight, now, and make-up afterward, and hopefully spout some witty one-liners along the way, and then I should be good. :D!
Although I do need some advice, wise flist. I signed up for
bandombigbang (every time I say that, I feel like running around in circles, waving my hands and screaming hysterically), and I'm not sure what I should do for it. Like, I could post my robot story for it, but March is such a long time away. And then again, I'm not sure if I could complete another 10,000+ word story before that time. I really don't know if I want the pressure of doing so, especially with school.
UGH I DON'T KNOW I WILL FIGURE IT OUT LATER. *brains self*
Here, to make up for my incessant whining, have some
hd_holidays recs!
Trajectories, by
bookshop, was the fic that I enjoyed the very most. It wasn't as complicated as other stories, and maybe not as ~cool or original, but it felt like Harry Potter, and oh my gosh, I must have laughed and gasped and covered my eyes twenty different times while I was reading it. SO enjoyable! I am definitely rereading this one. I need to wallow in it some more.
And I'll Tell You No Lies, by
annafugazzi, was incredibly interesting in terms of how it dealt with the details of Auror training. She delved into interrogation techniques and Veritaserum in this really fascinating way. Plus, the ending was beautifully happy, which is usually a must for me. /o\ Some people have expressed discontent with the way it ended--the story evolved into more of the conventional love story toward the end, rather than continuing with the theme of Auror training--but I quite liked it, all in all.
The Trouble with Good Sense, by
rurounihime, is a lot shorter than the others, but no less enjoyable. It's a great bite-sized fic to read when you don't have a lot of time and need a quick pick-me-up. Hilarious, with great banter and adorable Harry/Draco interaction.
Says The Magpie To The Morning (Sorrow, Take Your Own Advice), by
femmequixotic; okay, so, pretty much everyone in the world has already read this fic. And it is really good! Fantastic depth in characterization, and the interactions were beautiful, as was the writing. I have some reservations on the characterization being a little too urban and edgy and fanon (I'm sorry, I just typed urban but I have no idea what I meant by it), but other than that, it was a great read! I kept checking the scroll bar to see how much was left because I didn't want it to end.
Draco Malfoy's Travelling Theatre of the Strange and Spectacular, by
melusinahp; so, this is another one of those fics that I think everyone has already read, but if not: run, don't walk! Fantastically creative universe, with amazing characters and atmosphere. Everything felt just a little bit whacky, and it was great! :D Dennis especially made for a HILARIOUS side-character.

Whew, that was a lot of typing! i am such a wimp. /o\ Happy early MLK day, everybody!

how can i procrastinate properly with you reminding me that i should maybe not fail high school?
anyways, ahahaha, I will now laugh 18,000,974,000,321x harder whenever anyone says that's what she said. Because, michelle burned me a mix cd with the backstreet boys song titled that on it and i laughed for the entire song and now everyone will think i've actually cracked :D:
and, you could so write another fic!! you just pound them out all the time. and they are almost always at least 10,000 words. Whereas, for me?...i like 3,000 words. or 8,000. but baby!fic is at 5,000 and i have no clue what I'm doing!\o/ it's fun though.

Date: 2010-01-20 11:51 pm (UTC)That totally did not help my point, but still. It's been 1.5 years! People can write 20 fics in that time. What I am doing is so not impressive. And I take a lot of time to actually THINK of something to write. I'll concede that sometimes the writing process isn't too slow, but my muse is a total slacker bum.
